Bringing Back Ad Swaps

A little while back, I decided to have paid ad space here on the blog. After a while, it became tedious to do all the updates, send the emails and other such things, so I decided to stop taking new advertisers. I recently decided to bring back the ads, but make them free this time around! I would love to swap ads with you, if you are interested. All of the information can be found here, but basically you will have at most a 250x125 space in the sidebar at the left for the duration of the month. Your ad can be any size, as long as it does not exceed 250x125. The ad must link to the blog where my ad will be found, not a shop, or any other site. The ad swap will last one calendar month, unless we decide on something else.

I am a 27 year old mom of 3 from Minnesota. I've been creating with different artistic mediums since I was very young. I find creating very relaxing.

My mother has always been very supportive of my creative pursuits, she wandered across wire wrapping during one of her travels and knew i would love it. She purchased the supplies and came for a visit and from there I took off.

My Etsy shop and we have a few wholesale accounts in Massachusetts, California, and Minnesota.
What do you do other than create?
I spend a majority of my time with my fiance and my kids. I love to cook, bake, swim, and spend time with my grandmother. We love to travel.
What does your workspace look like?
My workspace is in my living room, it's the most comfortable area for me to create, but it is very organized.
What is your most indispensable tool, that you would be completely lost without? 
Wire- I could never make what I do without wire.

Is the Easter Bunny visiting your house? What kind of treats do you hope to get?
The Easter Bunny isn't visiting my house this year.. I'm still hoping for a chocolate egg that my dad always gives me each year though. :)


What is your favourite springtime flower?
I love daffodils and lilacs!
Those are my two favourites, too! Lilacs smell so sweet, and are the loveliest colours.


Coffee or tea, and what kind is your favourite?
Coffee! I love iced coffee, and blended coffee. The cold ones tend to be a bit sweeter to me. :)


What is your most exciting project this month?
One of my most exciting projects actually has to do with coffee! I'll be sending some coffee themed paintings to an art gallery's coffee shop!

I definitely love Jasmines, after all I was named after them because my dad had a jasmine tree in their garden when he was growing up, I also love Calla Lillies, Azaleas and Alliums

Coffee all the way.

What is your most exciting project this month?
I am working on the world's most color uncoordinated blanket. I have lots of leftover DK weight yarn and want to use it all up in an attempt to create more space for new yarn. But I am guessing it will take much longer than a month.

March Swapper Round Up

This month was the first that I offered free ad space on my blog. These are the ladies that swapped ads with me.

I chose the username randomcreative because I have always enjoyed random creative projects using all different colors and materials. My current passions include jewelry, counted cross-stitch, and cards. On Etsy, I sell beaded and button bracelets, earrings, pendants, and necklaces as well as glass and metal charm sets, greeting cards, and PDF patterns of my original designs. I enjoy reading and taking care of animals. I'm also a big geek; right now I'm enjoying playing Lego Harry Potter with my husband.

A mess! I have a designated work table that I try to organize. But it seems like as soon as I start working, things spread out. I have paint bottles and scraps of fabric spread everywhere.

How do you get out of a creative slump?
I eat chocolate while rearranging my supplies: yarn, hooks, books and needles. Getting to see what I have, what I have left half way done gets me started. Sketching is always a good thing.

Ever since we live our life dictated by an agenda and a calendar, is always good and neccesary to have a day marked for love too!!

Welcome back, Nancy!

Nancy of nfall2rt is back again this month! Let's see what she's been up to.


How were your holidays? Did you do/see/taste anything awesome?
We traveled to my in-law's house in Georgia for the holidays. The trip was long (we drove the 12 hours) but very fun. It was great to see my hubby to be's parents again. We don't see them that often! His sister, who just had her second child, also lives there. I got to go to the hospital to see the baby who was premature and was not "freed" until a few days after we got home. It was also fun playing with their 3 year old who I hadn't yet met! Mr. M & I love cooking, so we made the holiday meal- prime rib with au jus, twice baked potatoes, and veggies.
Sounds yummy!

Any New Year's Resolutions?
I do not like to make resolutions as they usually fizzle, but I like to encourage myself to continue trying new things and improving in areas that I already do or love. I will continue to hike at least once a month, keep up with my other health and fitness routines, and at some point, I'd like to buy a pomegranate and learn how to eat it (stupid, yes, but still new to me).
Staying healthy is a great goal. I'm working on that, myself. Also, pomegranates are delicious! There are lots of youtube videos to help you with this one.

What do you want the most for your business this year?
This is one area of my life where I whole-heartedly embrace goals. At the top of the list for this year is to increase income and localize my business through getting my work into a brick and mortar shop and participating in more craft shows.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
Easy! This year I will get married! Mr. M & I decided we didn't want a normal church wedding. After discussing exactly what we want out of it, we've decided to take our wedding out to sea: we'll be going on a cruise with close family and friends.
That sounds lovely! I can't wait to see photos and read all about it.

What is your current favourite blog?
There's a few fantastic blogs out there. But my favorite hands down was created by a girl I went to art school with: Riding Bareback Beside A Train. It's brave. It's honest. It's artful. It's the most seriously written work of dedicated love I've ever seen. Some posts make me cry- others laugh, but every single post makes me long to consider the art in everything I do.

Welcome Back, Rachael!

Rachael of Talk2TheTrees/TreeTalker is back again this month!


How were your holidays? Did you do/see/taste anything awesome?
Oh dear.. my holidays this year have been a mess! Just in two weeks, my car broke down, my house flooded, I had a huge vacation planned, and the day I got back I caught a very bad cold! On top of all that I had holiday orders to get out. It's been less than a happy holidays.. but I'm doing my best to still see the light in things! After the flood we were able to put our Christmas tree back up, and rewrap the presents. I'm hoping to get over this nasty cold by Christmas.
This Holiday season has been quite the test for me. I have to try extra hard to be happy. Sometimes it makes more sense to just be sad.. to give up. But it takes lots of guts to face the problems with a smile. As all this was happening, I had two options.. to either give in, cry and be sad.. or toughen up and fight back with a smile.
I felt so bad reading Rachael's blog and tweets about all these things. I know the feeling when everything goes wrong at once, and it seems like it will never get better.

Any New Year's Resolutions?
I would love for my art shop to grow a bit more! Aside from that, I'd like to drink more water, and take my doggies on more walks.
Those are three great resolutions!

What do you want the most for your business this year?
I would love to eventually close my hat shop, or at least slow down sales so I can focus on my art more. As much as I love knitting and making hats, it's very time consuming when I just want to paint!

What are you most looking forward to this year?
I'm looking forward to looking forward to moving. (There was no typo there!) I have plans to start looking for a new place to live in the next few months.. so I'm looking forward to looking forward to that! I know that if I start looking now I will get too anxious and excited.. when I'm still in contract with this place!

Tell me about yourself!
My name is Nancy, and I am the creator/ owner of N. Fallon Design Studio. I make a line of hand knit bags and purses, and little note cards too! I live and work out of our row house in Baltimore, MD with my 2 furry feline friends and my mister.

How did you start hand making?
My father's side of the family is very creative; he is a furniture builder and my aunt is a painter and art teacher. I've always been exposed to art and making and learned to appreciate both the quality of handmade items and experience a drive to make myself as a child. Once I went to college I decided to study sculpture & textiles, and earned a degree in teaching as well. But it wasn't until after several years of teaching art that I realized the impulse to create full time was being neglected. So September of 2008 I opened my etsy shop and that's where my second life began!

Where do you sell, both online and elsewhere.
My online shop is NFall2rt
This holiday season I started selling at craft shows. A goal for this year is to get my line into some brick & mortar shops around Baltimore!

What do you do other than create?
I love nature. I grew up in a valley surrounded by the Shenandoah mountains and can never seem to get enough of them. I go hiking and camping quite frequently during the spring, summer, and fall, and occasionally during the winter as well! Additionally, my fiancée and I love cooking. He almost went to culinary school, but went into another field instead. Even still he's retained his passion for cooking and passed it on to me. I find that it's just another medium for creativity.
It's great having a loved one interested in cooking.
What does your workspace look like?
We live in a row house in Baltimore with an open floor plan, so my studio is wedged between the front sitting area and the kitchen. Since it's right when people walk in, I have to keep it a bit on the neat side. I am very fortunate to have a giant Ikea wardrobe with deep drawers and shelves to store my inventory and materials. I've also got a long table for sewing and blogging. Next to that is my drafting table, which is mostly used for spreading out pieces waiting for linings and fabric cutting these days.
I wish my space was as tidy as this. Hopefully one day it will happen.

What is your most indispensable tool, that you would be completely lost without?
My most indispensable tool is a pair of size 7 bamboo knitting needles. I typically use worsted weight yarn for my bags and purses, so I use these needles almost daily!
I love working with bamboo needles as well!

What do you do other than create?
I am a fulltime woman that said, I also do everything Etsy: team, treasuries and keeping up with those everyday changes. This last one is a constant challenge that keeps your mind at the edge of madness and creativity.

What does your workspace look like?
My home studio looks like a remodelation In progress, and here you won't find a sign appologizing for the inconvenience or the random location of my tools, yarns, projects and books.
My space is my territory. I do have a well sketch and thoroughly plan of what my near-future workspace/ home studio has to look like!!!! In the meantime this odd conner has and will continue to witness wonders!

My name is robyn, and I'm a minimalist knitter! I believe you can have a fabulous and fulfilling craft-based life, and still own less than the average American. I learned to knit at 19 from a co-worker, and fell instantly in love! I've been inundating friends and family with hand-knits ever since, and began knitting for charity shortly thereafter.

I stay home with our son Owen, and i love to read trashy fiction, both YA and for grown-ups.

Right now, my workspace is all over the house! I knit and crochet in spare moments, so I have a project in the living room, one in our office upstairs, and even one in the diaper bag for when we travel.

What is your most indispensable tool, that you would be completely lost without?

My Gussy bag! i use it to store my most used knitting needles, my most used crochet hook, and all my knitting notions. it fits in the diaper bag or my knitting bag, and looks gorgeous!
