Culling My Stash

I have been knitting for about 9 years, which, I guess, is a long time seeing as I'm only 20. In this time, I have managed to acquire what I consider to be a substantial stash. And, if you take into consideration that most of this was given to me, it seems even larger.
I am moving out of my parents house for the first time this weekend. I have been storing my yarn somewhat sloppily in large tote bins belonging to my mother. I have tried to reorganise my stash a few times, and have succeeded, but I have always wanted clear containers to store them in.
And here comes Canadian Tire to the rescue! For those of you that don't know what Canadian Tire is, please visit the website.
I found some awesome storage containers here. Five drawers, clear, sturdy, and they have wheels! I figured I would need about 3 to house my yarn. So that's what I got. I expected to need one of those zippered Bed-In-A-Bag bags to put the small leftovers in.
Needless to say, I underestimated. By a lot. I have about half my stash in, and I didn't want to get rid of anything, because it is all precious to me, but nothing else fit!
I've buckled down and started a "give away" pile. It started out small, mostly filled with what I thought were ugly colours, or odd textures. Then it grew. And grew. And grew.
I am giving a nearly full garage bag to my local Blankets for Canada group. I have blogged about them before, and it is a charity that is easy to help. A pattern is given, but when I make my squares, I generally free hand them.
It's a great way to get rid of leftovers, and it doesn't matter how ugly the yarn is, it always looks great when it's joined into a blanket!

Just a note, since I am moving, I don't know when I will have full internet back, and I might not be updating for a few days!

Two "tomorrows" later!

Wow! I completely forgot to blog yesterday! I worked most of the day and then came home and slept for a while. I needed to catch up!
I do have a picture of the cowl I made while it was still being knit.
The colour is pretty spot on (Wool Ease T&Q in Taupe). It's quite a bit longer than what the picture shows, because I continued knitting for a little while after the picture was taken. The pattern is a modified version of a few patterns I found online. It needs a little more tweaking until I will be SUPER happy with it, but this cowl, in my opinion, is awesome!

Sunday!

I have been SO busy lately! I got the key to my new apartment today, and I'm super excited. I have been all over the place this past week, and having a good time.
I finished a few dishcloths while using public transportation, continued a scarf I've been working on, and I'm thinking of starting a cowl for myself.
Speaking of cowls! I will post the pictures of Sonia's cowl tomorrow! I have the pictures on my computer somewhere, and I just need to find them.
As far as starting something new today, I didn't have time because of work and visiting the new place. But as soon as I start something, I will post!

This one is TOTALLY a cowl!

Yes, what I started today is a cowl, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!
Like I mentioned in my last post, Sonia asked me to knit her a "tubular scarf", and I googled "knit cowl pattern" and this is the first pattern that popped up. I picked up the yarn yesterday, Wool Ease, in Taupe. It's a really pretty colour, and my FAVOURITE yarn. I don't have any pictures yet, but I am up to row 11, and the pattern is really easy! The only change I made other than the colour, is that it's on 10mm needles.
I'm in the middle of a million things, but I will update again soon!

I think it's a cowl Part 2

I cast off the cowl this morning.
And it's the goofiest thing I have ever knit. It will be frogged before the day is through.
It is too large around to be a proper cowl and not long enough to be a hood thing. I guess that's why one should check gauge before knitting!
In other cowl news, I have been asked to knit a cowl for the lovely Sonia. She is a super awesome local chick, who helps put on shows and charity stuff. As soon as I get that started, pictures will happen!

It's past my bed time!

And that means a blog post is in order!
I just finished a dish cloth for myself, in the Sunny Sky colourway from Bernat. And I just cast on an other one in the Beach Ball colourway.
In other news, I went to Blankets for Canada on Monday night. I handed in all my squares, and started on a new one. I'm really loving the squares. They're such small projects, but I really feel like I'm making a difference in someone's life by knitting each and every one of them. It's really no work for me, and it doesn't cost me anything but time, since I use left over bits of yarn.

I will be really happy when the weather decides what it wants to do... My skin is super dry and icky feeling.

Sunday Sunday Sunday!!!

It is Sunday, and I couldn't be happier! Last night we put on a surprise party for my Dad (the big 50 this year!) and everything went off without a hitch. I can finally start to relax a bit.
I have noticed that I have a TON of started projects, so this Sunday, once again, is going to be a little different. I'm going to try to finish as many projects as possible. I have about 4 dishcloths with just a few rows to go, a scarf that needs an other foot or so, the wool cowl thing needs to have a real title and perhaps be finished and I kind of want to organise my stash. At the very least put everything into storage.
I'm hoping Samantha will upload the C.N.A.P. pictures today, she's been quite busy, as well. As soon as those are available, I will post them here, and on the C.N.A.P blog!

Computer issues!

I have been having a TON of computer issues lately. If my updates are few and far between, this is why.
I am using my computer-less time to knit, though. My wool cowl thing is almost done. I think. I'm really not sure if it will stay a cowl, or be turned into something else.

Sunday!!!

Today is Sunday, and this past week WOOSHED by! There was good stuff (OH! C.N.A.P. starting), bad stuff (my boyfriend and I broke up) and in between stuff (I started packing to move).
I did manage to get a little knitting done on all the WIPs I have, which include the all-wool (maybe) cowl, a dishcloth, and the pink Blossom scarf. I am currently working on a new dishcloth, which I just started today. It is the Beach Ball Blue colourway, from Bernat. I LOVE this colour! I plan on making a least a few in it for my kitchen.
OH! Moving! I don't think I ever mentioned this! I'm moving out on my own at the beginning of April. I'm super excited, but SUPER nervous!
